4.
High speed infrastructure development in China
According to statistics of World Bank, the mileage of roads and railways are below the average standard of OECD countries. It is also behind that of developing countries in Asia. In “11th Five-year plan” (2005-2010), the central China government will spend RMB 3800 billion Yuan on transportation infrastructure, which is 73% more than that in the 10th 5 year plan period.
1. Railway Construction:
RMB 1500 billion yuan would be invested on railway construction (including 19,800 km of railway, inclusive of 9,800 km of passengers transport line) by the end of 11th Five-year plan.
2. Highway:
The total mileage of highway across the country will be 2,000,000 km by year 2010 inclusive of 35,000 km of high-way. And by year 2020, these two numbers will be 2,500,000 km and 70,000 km, respectively. Total investment in road construction will reach RMB2,100 billion yuan.
3. Ports:
In addition, China Ministry of Communications will explore more funding sources in the next five years. More investment would be put into Yangtze River and inland rivers ports construction.

4. Metro Construction:
On the other hand, the mileage length of underground train and light rail will surpass 1500 km in mega cities in the future. The investment will reach more than RMB 200 billion yuan.
5. Urban construction. In the next 20 years, the level of urbanization will increase by 60%. To maximize the urban land value, functions of individual regions / district will be re-assigned. Therefore, large quantity of residential land resources will be configured where houses have to be re-built in a lot of cities. |
6. Water and Sewage Treatment:
During the 11th Five-year period the total investment on Water and sewage treatment market would be over RMB 1,000 Billion Yuan, including more than RMB 330 Billion Yuan on urban polluted water and recycle water Infrastructure, and over RMB 50 Billion Yuan investment on renewal of old pipes and polluted water pipes net, RMB320 Billion Yuan investment on south-to-north water transfer project. Other projects include water safety system, desalination of sea water and other related projects construction.

7. Western Region Development:
During the 11th Five-year period western region infrastructure has been gaining the great progress, which increased 200 thousand kilometers road and 110 thousand kilometers pitch road in rural. The total railway road mileage has reached 35 kilometers. Newly added rural hydropower installed capacity of 1.1 million kilowatt.
